NEW FARM HOUSE
A contemporary extension to a heritage building
This 1927 mock Tudor style house is listed on the Brisbane City Council Heritage Register. This meant the proposed extension was not permitted to reduce its heritage significance. All new work was to the rear of the house and preserved intact the formal living areas, staircase and entrance vestibule. As is recommended for heritage works, the extension was completely contemporary in its aesthetic, so as to contrast with the original building and not attempt to replicate or denigrate the value of the ‘old’. The extension provided much needed space for a large family, and flowed to the back yard with a pool, pool house and lots of play space.
